Abstract:

The study aimed to determine the relationship between parental achievement and career interest and self-efficacy of the selected fourth year high school students in the special Science Curriculum of Letran Calamba, AY 2009-2010. It utilized descriptive correlational research design. Frequency and percentage were obtained to determine the personal, parental achievement, career interest, and self-efficacy profile of the respondents. To find out if there is a significant difference between the career interest and self-efficacy of the respondents when they are grouped according to their personal factors, ANOVA and t-test were used. On the other hand, Pearson r correlation coefficient was adopted to determine if there is a relationship between parental achievement and career interest and self-efficacy of the respondents.

It was found out that the career interest and self-efficacy of the respondents has no significant difference when they are grouped according to their personal factors. Furthermore, parental achievement has no significant relationship with the career interest and self-efficacy of the selected fourth year high school students in the special Science Curriculum of Letran Calamba. It was concluded, therefore, that the achievement of the parents has no connection with their child’s interest and efficacy on the field of study he/she is at now.
