iLearn – An Android Based Educational Game for Preschoolers using SuperMemo2-Follow Up Sequence and K-means Algorithms

Kirra Arrence P. Mallari | Vernon Reodique

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to design, develop, and implement an application for Android mobile phones to guide preschoolers in enhancing their reading comprehension and mathematical skills. The researchers chose the mobile platform as it is handy. The researchers developed an Android application that is an educational game. When the application starts, the parent needs to fill up the information to create an account and the child will choose an animal character. Before starting the actual game, they take an assessment test to check how wide their knowledge is. After this, the game proceeds to the game’s activities which have various levels. A dashboard option for parents to see their kids’ improvement is provided. The researchers used SuperMemo2-Follow Up Sequence and K- means Algorithms. These algorithms take over the content selection when the user decides to play one or more rounds after the initial level to avoid frequent repetitions of the same content and to focus on topics that the learner does not know very well yet.
