Abstract:

Parental roles have vital and significant contribution to the holistic development of children. The study aimed to determine the level of awareness of parents on their roles in early childhood children. The data from 75 respondents from the Municipality of Biliran, Philippines were gathered through the use of adapted questionnaires. Descriptive design was utilized in obtaining quantitative data. Frequency, percentage and simple weighted mean were the statistical tools used in analyzing quantitative data. As to the awareness of the respondents, both parents of living and not living together were highly aware of their duties and responsibilities as well as the rights of the child. However, both parents were not highly aware of the prohibitions and limitations. Therefore, parents both living together and not living together were significantly conscious of their roles to their children in terms of duties and responsibilities, rights of the child, and prohibitions and limitations. As to the prohibitions and limitations, parents did not clearly understood the meaning of the prohibitions and limitations because most of the them only relied on what they saw and heard on the television at home and few seminars were attended conducted by the local government unit. Thus, a practical guide was designed to address the awareness of the parents.
