Abstract:

This study aimed to assess the supplementary reading materials for elementary learners in Southville 8 Elementary School. This is a mixed-method research design. Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions: 1) What is the assessment of the teachers-respondents on the supplementary reading material based on the following criteria: Content, Format, Presentation and Organization, Accuracy, and Upto-datedness of Information. 2) Is there a significant difference between the perception of Teachers I to III and Master teachers/ Coordinators in the assessment of supplementary reading materials? 3.) What suggestions or comments are offered by the teacher-evaluators to further improve the supplementary reading materials? The research instrument used is an electronic survey questionnaire. The electronic survey questionnaire is used to determine the respondents' evaluation of the supplementary reading materials. Paired sample T-test was utilized to examine whether there was a significant difference between the assessment of Teacher I-III and Master teacher/ Head Teachers. Results of the study showed that the evaluators perceived the supplementary materials as “outstanding” as evidenced by the grand weighted mean of 3.51. a.) It implies that the supplementary reading materials are acceptable and satisfactory to the teachers-evaluators and experts. b.) There was a significant difference between the perception of Teachers I-III and Master teachers/ Coordinators in the assessment of supplementary reading materials. Hence, it is recommended that other studies may be conducted to test the effectiveness of the supplementary learning materials in enhancing the reading comprehension of the learners. Also, to develop similar supplementary reading materials for higher-level students.
