Malayyo Ngayawan-Beyer’s Hudhud Tagtagen ad Namugong: A Narrative of Its Makings

Ruby Rosa Ayalde-jimenez

Abstract:

This paper presents The Story of Tagtagen of Namugong (Hudhud Tagtagen of Namugong) as recited by Malayyo Ngayawan-Beyer. This contains a narrative of my documentation, from its recording on 25 and 26 of May 2006, its transcription and translation from July to November 2007, and the problems that I encountered in the process. The story recounts the life and adventures of the members of the three kadangyan families from Gonhadan, Buyyubuyun, and Kabonglahan villages. Interpreting the story from Apo Malayyo’s and Lily Beyer-Luglug’s perspectives, I discover and argue that the story embodies their concepts of maal-ali, madayo, and mapahiw.
