Abstract:

This issue of DIALOGUE features four papers which were presented last August 1979 in a seminar-workshop on "Teaching Social Sciences: The Need for Relevance and Innovation", It was sponsored by the Social Sciences Department of the Graduate School as part of De La Salle University's service to the social science community. Fifty social science instructors and chairpersons from public and private schools, as well as Education Ministry representatives, attended the seminar.

 

Dr. Aprodicio Laquian, former Social Science Development Project director of the International Development Research Centre of Canada, gave the keynote lecture on "Recent Trends in Social Science Teaching in the Third World". Other papers presented were "Teaching Economics" by Prof. Elmer Abueg, Economics Professorial Lecturer and United Nations consultant; "Teaching Psychology and Sociology" by Prof. Jennifer Lauby, Behavioral Sciences Chairperson and Development Academy of the Philippines consultant; and "Teaching History and Political Science" by Dr. Wilfrido V. Villacorta, Graduate Social Sciences Chairperson and Vice chairman of the Philippine Social Science Council.
