Rizal's Last Trip to Spain

Antonio M. Molina

Discipline: History

Abstract:

For reasons yet unknown some of Rizal's own countrymen in Madrid worked to prevent his transfer from Dapitan to Spain, even as other so-called friends of his in Malolos likewise objected to his being sent to Vigan as he had requested of the Manila government. Whilst Rizal was about to resign himself to his fate, a favorable reply to his petition filed the previous year to go to Cuba as a military physician of the Spanish Army reached him. The authorization granted him, however, allowed him discretion to accept or not.
