Abstract:

Conflict is inherent to organizational life. Studying conflict between managers and workers is important because, when poorly managed, could undermine an organization’s labor relations and productivity (Schermerhorn et al., 2002). Controlling conflict, according to Marquis (2006), is a management function, but identifying the appropriate resolution to conflict is the role of a leader (Jones 2000). Conflict is the internal or external discord that results from differences in ideas, values, or feelings between two or more people (Marquis and Huston, 2006). As such, it should not be avoided or encouraged, but managed.
