Abstract:

The cloud seeding operation that took place in Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines, from February 19 to 26, 2016, is assessed. The main difference between this endeavor and past activities is the size of the seeding material applied which was more than ten times smaller in diameter than what had been customarily used. The results of this study demonstrated that powdered salt seemed to be promising and that upper air observations are indispensable. The constraints, limitations and problems encountered were discussed. Among the recommendations for research and strategies towards better and more efficient rainfall enhancement activities are additional infrastructure such as better aircrafts, one of which is instrumented for examining dynamical and microphysical properties of clouds
