An Analysis of the Relationship between Economic Development and Democracy in the Philippines (Ramos Regime)

Abstract:

Tis research is all about the relationship of economic development and consolidation of democracy in the Philippines during the Ramos regime. The Philippines had experienced tremendous economic collapse during Marcos authoritarian regime. In the restoration of democracy in Aquino’s regime, there was only a sign of economic recovery with a very weak foundation of democracy. When Ramos succeeded the presidential position in 1992, there was a good sign of economic growth which simultaneously had a connection with the development of democracy. Tis research evaluates the Ramos government programs and policies that had reinforced the economy and empowered democracy in the Philippines. The data used in this research was taken from secondary sources like; articles, Encarta, encyclopedias, journals, newspaper, textbooks, and some related sources obtained from internet access have provided supporting information. The Ramos regime had imposed three major programs that are compatible with the Philippine current situation. The three major following programs are decentralization, deregulation, and liberalization. It may, therefore, be concluded to the nation’s success in strengthening the economy and restoring democracy in the Philippines. President Ramos has clearly been successful in implementing economic reforms was enhanced, and democracy was realized. Tis served as a go signal for the researcher’s interest in this research study.
