Tourism Components of Lubang Occidental Mindoro: Potentials as a Tourist Destination

Abstract:

The purpose of this paper was to determine the potential of Lubang Island, a less known tourist destination situated in the east of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines, vis-a-vis the four travel determinants or four As of tourism namely, Attractions, Accommodations, Accessibility and Amenities, also known as Ancillary services. The study was conducted from April to August, 2017 and the researchers personally went to the island to conduct the interviews with the local government officials and administered the survey to the local populace which numbered 291 and 20-30 tourists who were present during the time of the data gathering process. Based on the four As, the local populace favored natural attractions as their assets, the out rigger boat or banca as the main transportation to and from the island, private resorts and houses for tourism accommodations and lastly, the variety store as the most acceptable amenity.
