Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to explore the reasons why students opted to take tourism course at the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) over other established schools in Davao City. The data for the study were gathered through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with six selected second year tourism students and an In-depth Interview (IDI) with two selected second year tourism students. Findings of the study revealed that majority of them considered tourism course as their second option in taking a college degree. The participants also mentioned that they chose UIC over other schools since it is more established, aside from the attractiveness of the color of the building and school uniform, which is pink. Moreover, it is also revealed that one of the reasons for choosing UIC is that the teachers are knowledgeable of the subject matter despite the exhibited attitude. Participants also expressed that the school facilities are need to be improved and must address the foul odor of the surroundings. Furthermore, students do not agree to some of school policy especially not allowing them to color their hair.
