Rodrigo Duterte’s Leadership through the Lens of Plato’s “Philosophy King”

Abstract:

The aim of this philosophical endeavor was to explore the political philosophy of Plato’s Philosopher King as it serves as a guidebook with regards to effective leadership. It focused on the study from the political viewpoint of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership in Davao City. To facilitate the content of the paper, this work asked these questions: 1.) What qualities of a good leader can be abstracted from the Philosopher King of Plato? 2.) What are the leadership qualities of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte? 3.) What is the implication of Plato’s Philosopher King in Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership? In the course of the presentation, the discussion of Plato theory of Philosopher King and its implication to Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership was discussed where his definition of the leader is that, the person that is well-trained and well-educated. Accordingly, a leader should be a person that can rule his people with the used of his rational and moral capacity. It further exposed Plato’s concept of a good leader and how it is achieved. Availability and engagement towards the society and the given data were pointed out as the way of achievement. The relationship found in the view of Plato in a good and effective leadership. Along with the presentation, it was found that the Plato’s Philosopher King delved on the understanding of the leadership of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Thus, this led to the presentation of the analysis and the implications on Plato’s view on the leadership qualities of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. It further displaced how the philosopher successfully presented the thoughts on the said matter. Moreover, Plato’s Philosopher King has an implication on Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership with regards in ruling the city with the good implementation of laws. Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, as he possesses the qualities of a good leader, had established his state well in which people rely on his stabilities to maintain what he had established.
