Abstract:

Quality silkworm egg is the backbone of the sericulture industry. Advanced sericulture countries reared hybrid silkworm for commercial cocoon production. The oviposition materials for silkmoth were studied to determine the best and most economical material for egg production of silkworm F1 hybrids. The study tested three oviposition materials such as the loose egg sheet, cellular bag, and cellular card for the improvement of the economic traits of F1 silkworm hybrid. Moth examination, surface disinfection, acid treatment, and incubation were done following the Standard Operating Procedure in Silkworm Rearing. The study was conducted at DMMMSU-SRDI, Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines. Results of the study revealed no significant difference between treatment means in the hatchability and the rearing performance of silkworm. Regarding the return on Investment (ROI), the loose egg sheet gave the highest percentage of 67.62%.
