Abstract:

US: Understanding Signs ~ a typing tutorial for the deaf and mute, simply known as US, is an intelligent tutoring system for typing which caters to the deaf and mute students. US uses video presentations of American Sign Language for its lessons and quizzes.

The study used descriptive research and employed the Iterative Development Method for the development of the software. Survey questionnaires were distributed to the selected respondents who were chosen through purposive sampling. These data were used for the functionalities of the software, US.

After the analysis, US was incorporated to three algorithms: recursive algorithm to ensure that the users have met the requirements to proceed to the next chapter; randomize algorithm for the randomization of the questions in the quizzes; and top-parsing algorithm to verify if the users have typed the correct answers. Lastly, the software was evaluated based on its reliability, correctness, and completeness.

Results showed that US is reliable, correct, and complete. Thus, it
