Abstract:

This study examined the experiences of teacher in teaching special students in a regular classroom. Specifically, this study looked into their observation of special students, their difficulties in teaching special students, their coping mechanisms, and their suggested actions on how to alleviate their difficulties. Using qualitative research, specifically phenomenological technique, I gathered data by utilizing an interview guide in a semi-structure interview with five teachers. These teachers were selected based on the special students they have their classes. After the interview process, we transcribed their answer and began the analysis. The findings reveal that teacher were able to detect the needs of special students by means of observing their actions and behaviors. In addition some of their difficulties include answering the special needs of special students, choosing the appropriate methodology that would cater to both regular and special students, and preventing classroom bullying. Results also revealed that teachers coped with these difficulties by using varied teaching strategies and by providing immediate conference and feedback with students whenever the need arises given the results, it is recommended that teachers in a regular classroom should be given training in handling students with special needs in an inclusive classroom. Further studies in the practice of inclusion are also highly recommended.
