Abstract:

Learning mathematics is a lifelong process. Its social nature demands immediate cooperation from both teachers and students. The study aimed to determine the influence of discussion web strategy of enhancing problem-solving skills in mathematics among Grade 9 students of San Vicente National High School. The experimental research design was used in the study that involved the 40 Grade 9 students of section Mendeleev, as the subjects of the experimental group and 40 students of section Curie as subjects of the control group. The findings revealed that he least learned competencies were the result of the lack of prior knowledge of the subject matter. The use of the discussion web strategy influenced the students’ performance as showed an increase in the performance of the subjects in the post-test of the experimental group than the control group. Students exposed to the discussion web strategy have gained mastery of problem-solving, and the strategy must be applied and practiced in all mathematics competencies. It was recommended that the school administrators should encourage and monitor the teachers to implement the strategy presented by the researcher to improve their instructional strategies in delivering the lessons and extend support to teachers by providing instructional materials using MOOE funds.
