Abstract:

Gender roles influence organizational settings. The role of women and men should be equal in full access of resources, opportunities, rights and obligations in their spheres of life. This study was designed to determine the constraints and opportunities in engendering instruction. The phenomenological strategy was used in gathering inquiry. The study was conducted at Quirino State University and composed of twelve (12) faculty participants. The purposive sampling method was used. Data collection was conducted through interview, in-depth observation, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and document analysis. Constraints in mainstreaming gender in instruction are as follows: bias usage of gender-fair language; less passion on Gender and Development (GAD) related research; low level of gender awareness and limited GAD-related training/seminars among students. It was found out that practice of neutral gender teaching; women empowerment through entrepreneurial activities in school; implementation of gender-related policies and availability of sex-disaggregated data are the opportunities for gender equality. Moreover, the following are the approaches to surpass constraints in engendering instruction: language use model; motivation for research productivity; gender mainstreaming and conduct of GAD-related seminars among students.
