Abstract:

Discussions on the probationary system primarily rest on a materialist perspective. Recently, discussions have emphasized other societal advantages of probation. To determine the efficacy of the probationary system in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, as it was experienced by probationers, this study used key informant interview and the distribution of questionnaire to 117 respondents. The study determined the level of effectiveness of the probation program in terms of establishing a more humane correctional system, an individualized community–based treatment, and the reformation of offenders; the level of significance in the effectiveness of the probation program; and the level of significance between the effectiveness of probation program on rehabilitation and treatment and offender’s reformation.
