Abstract:

This study aimed to evaluate the current status of Pook ni Mariang Makiling in Los Baňos, Laguna in terms of its amenities, services, accessibility, and environment/sceneries to be able to determine what possible ecotourism development could be made in the area.

Using descriptive method of research and simple statistics, data were gathered and analyzed to describe the present status of Pook ni Mariang Makiling. The study used two observation checklists – the first one was for assessing the area’s current conditions and the second one was for observing the possible growth areas to enhance its status as an ecotourism site in Laguna. Guests were also asked to assess the site through the use of a researcher-designed survey questionnaire which is based on the criteria set by DOT.

The study found out that the amenities and services of Pook ni Mariang Makiling has an average standard only, therefore, development and improvement should be done. The environment/sceneries is in accordance with the ecotourism criteria but lacks wildlife viewing and marine life.

The study recommended that the management should focus well in the enhancement of its amenities and improvement of services. Major renovation of facilities like the cottages, accommodation rooms, toilets, reception area, and viewing deck should be done. An aviary or aviaries should also be added. Trees and vegetation should be labeled. Idles areas should be landscaped with the addition of walking trails and hanging bridges for trekking. Accessibility should also be improved by providing shuttles for guests. Finally, ecotourism activities should be considered as part of the activities in the site like zip-lining, biking, and bird watching among others.
