EVALUATING SCHOOOL HEADS INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP PRACTICES AND SCHOOL CLIMATE IN ROSARIO WEST DISTRICT, SY 2018-2019: BASIS FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Abstract:

Education is an indispensable means of transmitting the skills and knowledge required by individuals to fully participate and contribute to the development of economic, social, and political activities of any country. The principal is the head of a secondary school, as such, he is the manager and administrator of that school. The principals' responsibility is to provide instructional leadership that entails ensuring highquality teaching and learning by supervising instructional programs and ensuring effective use of instructional time to foster the attainment of educational goals and objectives. This study evaluated the instructional leadership practices and school climate in Rosario West District SY 2018-2019. Results were used as a basis for a professional development plan. The subject of the study is the 24 school heads of Rosario West District and the 38 Grade III advisers. The main instrument used for data gathering was research questionnaires. The results show that there should be a training of teachers in assessment. Composition of more members of the research committee should be established. Emphasize educational programs that would enhance science and technology and ICT literacy. There should be training of school heads on instructional supervision using the appropriate strategy. Reduce the ratio of teacher to the pupil to give focus on every learner. Reinforcement activities/remedial classes should be conducted to uplift the achievement level of the learners. DepEd should prioritize the provision for learning facilities to every school. Encourage teaching-learning interaction with the aid of technology through providing computers and other gadgets needed by the learners. Community involvement is recommended.
