NAVIGATING THE TERRAIN OF ACADEMIC PUBLICATION: CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CULTURE OF RESEARCH IN UNIVERSITIES

Ederson de los Trino Tapia | Sonia Fontanilla-Pimentel

Abstract:

The imperative of research in educational institutions will always be critical. Research productivity directly impacts their capacity to deliver quality programs and their overall competitiveness. Therefore, it is no surprise that the academic work on the subject had been extensive. For example, Kumar and Idris (2006) lengthily examined how research affects the performance of an educational institution; Piccoli and Wagner (2003) argued that academic research, fully realized, has a productive contribution to practice; and Salazar-Clemeña and Almonte-Acosta (2007) averred that the conduct of research among higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country “leaves much to be desired in terms of quantity, quality, thrusts, and contribution to national development.” Along this line, Tapia (2020) developed a framework that pointed to research, which he calls ‘knowledge creation’, as an important area, along with five others, that make up an HEI’s ‘capacity’ in the context of delivering selected graduate programs in the country.
