Abstract:

The success of any gauge theoretic grand unified model is determined to a large extent by two factors: namely, renormalizability and asymptotic freedom, which in turn depend largely on the Casimir invariant eigenvalues and anomalu coefficients of the group representations in the models, respectively. While the values for the fundamental representations are well-known, those for higher representations are not. In this paper, a scheme for determining the Casimir invariants and anomaly coefficients of higher representations through the basis tensors is presented, together with the exact values for some of the higher representations.
