Harley David L. Malla | Christine Jhoy A. Espinosa | Juan Paolo L. Alvarez

Abstract:

The research analyzed the instances of call-out culture from political conversations on Twitter. This study used selected participants, who have Twitter accounts and different experiences of calling-out culture on Twitter. Through conversation analysis under the qualitative research method, the results revealed that some participants/Twitter account users were engaged in various kinds of calling-out occurrences through tweets, retweets, quote tweets and tweet reply from different categories like news, humor, and political matters. Twitter account users were aware of what they posted and of others’ opinions, and they avoided bashing/calling-out. The researchers gathered from four different conversations on Twitter, which contained enough data for the study. All the necessary data were transcribed and interpreted following the principles of conversation analysis. The nature of calling-out culture was dissected, and it incorporated political conversations. Findings revealed that the Twitter’s trending topics were about Philippine politics. Meanwhile, the researchers were able to justify and identify the factors, which led the Twitter users to reply.
