Abstract:

The study was a qualitative research that focused on the constructs of home among selected adolescents in Calamba, Laguna. Specifically, it determined the different constructs of home among selected adolescents, the reasons for being in Calamba Children Shelter of Hope. It also intended to develop a structured learning experience module. The researchers used the Family Systems Theory by Murray Bowen to serve as a guide for this research. The research methods used were interview based on validated guide questions, observation, and audio recording. The data were analyzed thematically. The results showed that the participants’ constructs of home were related to the idea that a home must have love, unity, peace, and understanding. All of them considered the shelter as a home because they found the qualities of a home inside the institution. Physical and sexual abuse done by their stepfathers or other family members was their main reason for being in the institution. Based on the findings, the researchers created the Structured Learning Experience (SLE) Module that tackles interpersonal and intrapersonal problems as well as activities that help self-enhancement. For the recommendation, the institution was encouraged to use the SLE module as a guide in order to facilitate or improve the current institutional programs. The participants must also join in the activities that are designed to improve their well-being. In the process, results of the study are expected to be communicated to the public in order to raise awareness on the effects of abuse.
