The Relationship Between Emotional Quotient and Employment Readiness of Calamba City Senior High School’s Grade 12 students

Abstract:

This study aimed to determine the relationship between emotional quotient and employment readiness of Grade 12 students of Calamba City Senior High School. The researchers administered two psychological tests: the BarOn EQ-i: YV, a standardized test that aimed to measure the emotional quotient of the youth with an age range of 7 to 18 years old and theReady S-ERT Go!, a student structured test that aimed to measure the employment readiness of Grade 12 students. A total of 33 respondents were grouped according to age, 10 of them were 17 years old, while 23 of them were 18 years old. In terms of gender, there were 21 males and 12 females. When grouped according to strand, there were 16 STEM and 17 TVL respondents, respectively. The findings revealed that males had an average score in emotional quotient, indicating that they had an adequate emotional and social capacity. The females obtained a low score, which means that they had an underdeveloped emotional and social capacity. The majority of the respondents got an average level of emotional quotient. In terms of employment readiness, the average score of the respondents was average, suggesting that they had a well-improved capacity to obtain work. Furthermore, the majority of the respondents got a high level of employment readiness, indicating that they had a vast capacity to obtain work. A significant difference was also found between males and females when it comes to BarOn EQ-i:YV Adaptability Scales. STEM and TVL respondents had a significant difference when it comes to BarOn EQ-i:YV Adaptability Scale. There was also a significant difference between males and females when it comes to Ready S-ERT Go Information, media, and technology skills. When it comes to Ready S-ERT Go Learning and Innovation Skills, information, media, and technology skills, and effective communication skills, there was a significant difference between STEM and TVL respondents. Moreover, there was a positive correlation between emotional quotient and employment readiness of the respondents, specifically in Inconsistency Index, Interpersonal, General Mood, and Positive Impression.
