Abstract:

This study focused on improving the existing design of a tricycle driver’s seat by adding a backrest. The backrest would be made of low-density polyethylene and cushion pad from Form Asia Inc. This backrest would help relieve/reduce the pain that drivers experience while driving, and it can also give comfort to them. Tricycle drivers in Calamba, Sta. Rosa and Los Baños are the target market. Using quantitative and qualitative approaches, the study distributed the survey forms to 400 respondents to determine the need of the target market for the product. The researchers found out that most tricycle drivers experienced back pain because of driving for a long period of time in awkward position. Since they do not have any back support, they often suffer from fatigue and poor posture. As a recommendation, future researchers may improve the curved backrest in terms of its features and price.
