An In-Depth Analysis of the Discontinuance of the Pandanan Festival in Luisiana, Laguna

Abstract:

The study aimed to find out the cause and effect of the discontinuance of Pandanan Festival, which was used to be held annually from April 3 to 7. This qualitative study involved the residents of the barangay, the barangay captain, and organizers, who were selected using the convenience sampling method. Eleven (11) questions were answered by the participants during the interview. Based on the interview results, Pandanan festival had an economic impact to the town because it brought an expansion and improvement of local products and an increase in the economic activity. Moreover, it brought joy, and it enhanced the creativity of those who were involved in this event. They likewise believed that the Pandanan Festival had an impact on the promotion of their pandan products and other activities of the town by attracting tourists both locally and internationally, and hence, both the livelihood and tourism were being empowered. The significant tourism impact of the festival centers on the activities during the festival, attracting more tourists and promoting their town, products and services. The festival also resulted in generating higher income and enjoyment to the people in the municipality. The researchers recommended that budget committee for the festival should focus on the alternatives on materials for the over-all design and activities that will minimize the expenditures from the municipality’s budget without compromising the quality of the output. Different sponsorships from private group, sectors, and companies can support the funding of the yearly festival. Providing support to participating barangays will serve as their motivating factor to participate and coordinate in the events. Also, direct coordination with the hosts and organizers before, during, and after the duration of the festival is a must for it will ensure that all programs and activities are running smoothly. Finally, using the power of the free social media for the promotion of the Pandanan Festival must be encouraged.
