Abstract:

This case study explored the opportunities for the further development of the First Golden Dragon Rich Resort. Specifically, it aimed to: a) find out the result of the assessment of the resort using checklist based on Department of Tourism (DOT), the Class A Resort requirement; b) identify the existing products and services offered at the resort; and, c) to determine how these resort elements can be developed or maintained. A thematic analysis form of qualitative research was produced with the use of field notes, observation checklist, and an interview guide as data gathering instruments. In the comparison of the resort to the DOT standard, the resort received a very good rating overall. Results showed that the resort offered products such as day and night swimming, rentable event venues, and room accommodation. Regarding services, they provided banquet and catering, housekeeping services, and event planning to name a few. The researchers concluded that the resort is qualified to be a Class A Resort. The area in dire need of improvement is food and beverage outlets, with a very poor score of 1. This can be improved by means of adding at least one outlet to the resort. Developments should be implemented to achieve a higher status in the qualifications required by the DOT.
