Abstract:

Power factor is defined as the ratio of the real power and the apparent power. A power factor value of 1 reflects a very efficient loading of supply. On the other hand, a low power factor value can lead to huge losses in the supply system. When power factor is poor due to effect of inductive loading, corrections can be applied using capacitors to improve its value. This paper focuses on the study and implementation of a power factor controller with the use of Field Programmable Gate Array as the main controller.
