Abstract:

The paper focuses on the application of critical thinking skills in English Language Teaching (ELT). Specifically, it attempted to adapt a proposed framework on critical thinking to the Philippine setting. After analyzing existing approaches, structures, and processes on teaching critical thinking, it was concluded that the infusion approach is the most appropriate in the domain of ELT for teachers just need to allocate a number of hours for the explicit discussion of a certain critical thinking aspect which is appropriate for use in exploring the topic of the lesson. But it has to be realized that overflowing enthusiasm on the part of the teachers and school administrators is greatly needed to learn the principles of critical thinking for ESL teachers to successfully infuse critical thinking into their subject matter.
