Abstract:

Contact tracing is a widely used surveillance system for identifying, assessing, and managing people who have been exposed to novel infectious diseases, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. It is an essential tool for public health professionals and local communities to fight the spread of the virus. This study aims to address the issues regarding manual contact tracing, the precision of the close contact persons, and the user's information privacy. The incremental development methodology is used in this study to create a system for automated contact tracing app which is called WeACT and receiving feedback from users. The researchers design a system that could acquire the necessary information for contact tracing. In this research, the use of QR codes and GPS technology were applied to the overall system. This is to track and send notifications to the users if they have been in close contact with a person positive with COVID-19. Those data are stored in a database and can be accessed thru the WeACT website. The WeACT application was developed by the researchers to display the user’s information and generate the unique QR code. The study used the evaluation criteria to know the overall mean of software and prototype which has a rating of 4.58 gives the result of Excellent which evaluated by 50 users and 20 professionals. The major finding of this study is to reduce the time used in performing contact tracing. For that reason, the researchers conclude that this design project provides an easy way to collect information that is necessarily needed in contact tracing.
