On-line Cinema: Re-conceptualizing Film on the Web

David Drilon

Discipline: Literature, Humanities

Abstract:

The idea of on-line cinema would have been considered science fiction three years ago. The advent of 56K modems and streaming software changed all that as the web development community woke up to the reality of a video-enabled Internet. Still, the best dial-up connections resulted in fuzzy, pixilated viewing experiences that had more in common with penny arcades than the promised heaven of DVD. The problem was, and still is, bandwidth.
