Abstract:

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted various industries, particularly the tourism and hospitality sectors, affecting both businesses and employees. This study aimed to identify the key factors influencing the career trajectories of tourism alumni before and during the pandemic, as well as the differences between these periods. The study categorized the influencing factors into Economic factors, measured by financial stability and employment opportunities; Social factors, which include the influence of family, peers, and mental health; Environmental factors, considering the work environment and the effects of the pandemic outbreak; and Intrapersonal factors, encompassing personal interests, skills, abilities, and talents. Grounded in the Social Cognitive Career Theory, the study developed a conceptual framework to assess and analyze these factors and sub-variables. A stratified random sampling technique was employed, with a total of 134 tourism alumni in a private higher education institution in the Philippines participating in the survey. Data analysis was conducted using the Kruskal-Wallis test, a nonparametric statistical method. The findings revealed that intrapersonal and environmental factors were the highly assessed factors influencing career among tourism alumni. Additionally, significant differences were identified in the same factors based on sex and profession of the tourism alumni.
