Abstract:

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly influenced the travel behavior of youth in the Philippines, leading to increased caution due to the associated health risks. This study examines the impact of government-imposed travel restrictions on the travel behavior of youth tourists visiting Boracay Island, Philippines. The research is grounded in Bandura's (1986) Social Cognitive Theory, which provides a framework for understanding the interplay between personal behaviors, psychographic profiles, and environmental factors such as travel restrictions. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed to analyze the relationship between the identified variables. The study utilized a quota sampling technique to select youth respondents from Calamba, Laguna, who expressed interest in visiting Boracay Island. The findings reveal that changes in lifestyle, interests, and behavior (psychographic profile) due to the COVID-19 pandemic have a significant relationship with youth tourist travel behavior. Additionally, specific travel restrictions, including airport protocols, health regulations, and destination-specific restrictions in Boracay, were found to significantly influence the travel behavior of youth tourists. The study also highlights the implications of these findings for the tourism industry, emphasizing the role of evolving travel restrictions in shaping youth travelers’ perceptions and decisions. The results serve as empirical evidence of the changing travel behavior of young tourists amid the pandemic. Future research is recommended to explore how youth tourist behavior influences the local community’s responses and interactions within the destination.
