Abstract:
This study examined the awareness, practices, and challenges of knowledge management (KM) in selected private higher education institutions (HEIs) in Laguna and Batangas Philippines. Knowledge management is a strategic approach involving the creation, dissemination, and application of knowledge to enhance organizational performance and innovation. As private HEIs face increasing pressure to remain competitive and relevant, the effective implementation of KM was essential for fostering academic and institutional growth.
Using a descriptive-correlational research design, the study involved 425 faculty members who were randomly selected from six private HEIs. A survey questionnaire assessed the respondents’ awareness, practices, and challenges.
The study found a moderate level of KM awareness among faculty, with recognition of its role in managing information but lacking formal practices and strategic frameworks. Key barriers included limited resources, resistance to change, and weak technological infrastructure. A significant difference in knowledge application was observed based on educational attainment. Awareness was linked to KM practices like creation, capture, organization, and storage. Individual awareness correlated with organizational challenges, while cultural challenges affected knowledge application. To address these gaps, the study proposed a KM awareness and implementation program to enhance faculty engagement and improve institutional KM practices.
