Karen Faye M. Tan | Alyssa Yhel Tengco | Jerico John G. Dalangin

Abstract:

Palaui Island is a protected landscape and seascape that is home to unspoiled and pristine beaches, uninhabited islands, and breathtaking views. This study assessed the perception of local tourists and residents towards economic, environmental and social aspects of sustainable ecotourism on Palaui Island, Cagayan. The assessment was made by 181 local tourists through purposive sampling and 181 residents via random sampling. This study was descriptive in nature and a survey questionnaire was the instrument used in data gathering. Results show that ecotourism in Palaui is economically advantageous, socially appealing, and ecologically responsible. However, the tourism stakeholders of Palaui Island should exhibit a more inclusive collaboration, particularly in planning and decision making, express a strong sense of protection for the environment and conservation of its natural assets to ensure its long-term sustainability.
