Abstract:

This study determined the principals’ level of managerial competence and supervisory skills as perceived by 12 junior and 2 senior high school principals, 362 teachers and 65 non-teaching personnel in 12 Catholic schools in Eastern Visayas. The study employed mixed-method research design. A descriptive device - survey questionnaires in 2 parts were used to determine the level of managerial competence and supervisory skills of principals. The correlational design was to determine the relationship between the managerial competence and the supervisory skills of the principals. Analysis of Variance and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used in the study. The study revealed that principals were very highly competent in their managerial functions and very highly skilled in their supervisory tasks. It further revealed that there was significant relationship between their levels of managerial competence and supervisory skills. For the qualitative data, the managerial challenges of the principals were on the small number of enrolments, high turnover of teachers, and the new normal challenge of COVID 19. On supervision, challenges include conflict among people of diverse personalities and insubordination and non-compliance of some teachers
