The Library Skills Acquired from Student Assistantship: Their Influence on Current Work Performance

Zonaina Sampayan

Discipline: Education

Abstract:

Library skills acquired from student assistantships enhance graduates' work performance and contribute significantly to their professional success. Using descriptive-regression research design, the study aimed to determine the influence of library skills acquired from student assistantships on their current work performance. Specifically, this study intended to determine the level of library skills acquired from student assistantship and the level of the current work performance of the graduates. It was performed using a survey questionnaire that was tested using Cronbach Alpha and content validity. Data were collected from seventy (70) respondents who were selected using a simple random technique, respondents consisted of graduates who used to work in the library as student assistants from the different State Universities and Colleges in Region XII and were analyzed using simple linear regression. Results from the quantitative analysis revealed that library skills acquired from student assistantships significantly influence the respondents’ current work performance. Further, the study implies that about 73.8 percent of the variations in library skills can be explained by the variations in work performance. Based on the findings, it is strongly recommended that educational institutions and libraries should develop structured training programs for student assistantships to enhance future career preparedness and work performance among graduates.
