Abstract:

Exploring anxiety and performance for mathematics extension program investigates the effect of learning anxiety on students' performance in mathematics. This aims to develop and implement a targeted awareness program to alleviate anxiety and enhance mathematical understanding through extension program. This study assessed the level of mathematics anxiety among students of Sibonga Community College Academic Year 2023-2024. An explanatory design was utilized to obtain data that showed the level of anxiety and performance of students in mathematics. The level of mathematics performance of students across all courses is very good and superior. Moreover, there is negative correlation between the level of mathematics anxiety and performance among students which means that as anxiety increases, the performance of students decreases or vice versa. Data also showed that students’ performance is affected with their level of anxiety as well as students have varied coping strategy with the anxiety they feel. Based on the data, a mathematics awareness program of extension was recommended to lessen the level of anxiety and increase performance of students. Extension programs should help the students with the anxiety they feel towards mathematics, increase performance and enhance coping strategy among students. Recommended extension programs can provide valuable insights into the anxiety faced by the students of Sibonga Community College, leading to a more effective and efficient program.
