Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to study the Pilipinology of selected Ilonggo Pop songs in South Cotabato—a region rich in Ilonggo history and culture. It attempts to answer how the thoughts, culture, and social relations of the Ilonggo people are expressed in songs, and how it contributes to the development of their cultural identity. The study was conducted through a qualitative design, using content analysis and thematic analysis of the lyrics of the selected songs. The analysis focuses on three main aspects: Thought, which covers important ideas and messages; Culture, which reflects traditions and beliefs; and Society, which deals with social issues and community interaction. The methodology also included interviews with local musicians to deepen the context of the songs. Based on the findings, it appears that Ilonggo Pop songs have a deep connection with the history, views, and experiences of the Ilonggo people. They show the appreciation of one's own culture, the spirit of unity and heroism, as well as themes of hope, resilience, and optimism. In sum, the research shows that Ilonggo Pop is not only an art form, but a powerful medium of expression, maintenance, and propagation of cultural identity. Through music, the wisdom and traditions of the Ilonggo are passed on to future generations, which strengthens their unity as a community.
