Romeo R. Andaya

Abstract:

Family functioning were determined from 37 respondents and its relationship to level of self-esteem. Forty three percent of the respondents belong to moderately dysfunctional family. Fifty one percent of the respondents have normal level of self-esteem. As to relationship of family functioning and level of self-esteem, there is a significant relationship between family functioning and level of self-esteem. It is concluded that the highly functional the family is, the higher is the level of self-esteem. It is recommended that respondents classified as dysfunctional families should be aware of their existing problem and teach them how to cope with it. Challenge those adolescents with low-level of self-esteem to overcome the existing problem by surrounding themselves with right people and don’t compare themselves with other. Involve the local government unit, such as “Sangguniang Kabataan” as a support group to those individuals with low self-esteem.
