Abstract:
This study presents the design and development of a low-cost SMART Traffic Lights Control Management
system that utilizes proximity sensors, distance sensors, and an Atmega-based Arduino microcontroller. The
system was developed to enhance signal efficiency and adapt to real-time traffic conditions. Data gathered from
the Lucena Diversion Road—covering traffic volume, vehicle speed, and congestion levels—provided essential
insights into current traffic challenges and guided the system’s design. The project aimed to reduce vehicle
waiting time by at least 20% through the implementation of an adaptive traffic light controller. The prototype
underwent testing to evaluate its practicality and effectiveness. Results showed that, by a score of 4.28, the
system’s ability to dynamically adjust signal timings based on real-time inputs improved responsiveness to
changing traffic demands. Evaluation findings demonstrated its potential to regulate vehicle flow, minimize
congestion, and enhance road safety. The prototype also exhibited reliability and efficiency, showing consistent
performance in delivering accurate traffic control operations, which, according to all the respondents, gave
remarks “agree”. In conclusion, the system offers a promising foundation for intelligent traffic management
and provides direction for future research and large-scale applications.
