Cecilia Manguerra-Brainard’s Fiction: Bridging Distances

Jhoanna Cruz

Discipline: Literature

Abstract:

Manguerra-Brainard's fiction is a searching for identity and a realization that this identity is formed not only by ethnic heritage but by the tension between this and the American culture, which she has also adopted as her own.

Asian-American history dates back to almost 160 years ago. But it has only been in the past twenty years that attention has been paid to the veritable trove of literature that the experience of Asians living in America has brought forth.
