Marketing Schemes and Scams: An Afterthought

Maria Luisa B. Gatchalian

Abstract:

The entry of various Investment Schemes posed as Multilevel Marketing, Networking, Binary Plan Schemes, Chain Distribution Plans, Recruits and Spillovers, Sponsorships, Stair steps/breakaway Plans and other scheme variants has been popularized by Multinational networking companies in the Philippines in the mid 1990’s. Although this scheme has been going on in other countries and in the Philippines long before, the hype it created has swiftly been adopted (seemingly) as an effective marketing and investment method.

Unfortunately, many abuses were committed and deviated from the true nature of responsible, legal and ethical investments. Many of these network marketing or capital investing dangerously masked the deceptions of pyramiding and other exploitative, unstable, illegal and unethical business practices.
