Discipline: Teacher Training
Abstract:
A study investigated the correlation between secondary school principals'
leadership behaviors and school performance in the Division of Catanduanes,
Philippines. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational design, the research profiled
principals, assessed their leadership styles with the Leadership Behavior
Descriptive Questionnaire (LBDQ). As to the level of school performance, the
secondary schools were evaluated in terms of the (a) NAT result given during
school year 2014-2015; and (b) the 2017 Performance-Based Bonus
Evaluation results of the school. This study was conducted covering only
those secondary schools in the Division of Catanduanes with school principal
plantilla, at least five years in the position as school principal and at least one
year as school principal in the school where he/she was assigned. The study
revealed that principals predominantly exhibited a task-oriented leadership
behavior. However, this behavior showed a negligible correlation with school
performance. The study recommended further research into other factors
influencing school performance and emphasizes the importance of
considering leadership behavior in the selection of school principals.
