Abstract:
This study examined the professional readiness of criminology interns at Isabela State
University–Angadanan Campus during the Academic Year 2023–2024. Specifically, it assessed
readiness in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitude and determined whether significant
differences existed when respondents were grouped according to age, sex, and socio-economic
status.
A descriptive–comparative research design was employed. Using purposive sampling, 77 interns
who had completed their on-the-job training (OJT) participated in the study. Data were collected
through a researcher-developed questionnaire with high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α =
0.89). Descriptive statistics were used to determine readiness levels, while independent samples
t-tests and one-way ANOVA were applied at the 0.05 level of significance to test group differences.
Findings revealed that interns were moderately ready in terms of knowledge (M = 2.97), skills (M
= 2.85), and attitude (M = 2.92). No statistically significant differences were found when grouped
according to age, sex, and socio-economic status (p > 0.05). Although interns demonstrated
foundational competencies for entry-level criminal justice practice, improvements in research
skills, technological proficiency, global perspectives, and adaptive professional competencies are
recommended.
