Abstract:

Food safety in animal health context, is a pre-requisite in ensuring animal welfare. To minimize, if not prevented feed adulteration, feed retailers should have good knowledge, positive attitude and perception in terms of feed quality and safety. This study aims to determine the knowledge, attitude and perception (KAP) of key informants in feed establishments in Eastern Visayas and assess the correlation between socio-demographic and the KAP variables. This study utilizes a closeended questionnaire as a research instrument and Spearman rank correlation to assess any significant relationship among variables. Results of the study showed that knowledge can come from prior experiences rather than technical seminars or orientation, a positive attitude can be achieved not just for economic reason but through a sense of responsibility, and that perception may be substantially different from reality such that what happens in the ground may not be the actual situation. Moreover, results showed a significant moderate correlation (p<0.001) among KAP variables and a significant weak correlation (p<0.05) between sociodemographics and KAP variables.. The results of the study can be used in crafting policy recommendations and a program indicator which not only focuses on the number of feed establishments monitored but with the impact assessment of the program to the beneficiaries.
