Abstract:

Ecdysterone was isolated from the leaves of Cyanotis vaga Lour. (Schultes). This was shown to reduce the revertant colonies of Salmonella typhimurium TA 1535 and TA 1537 caused by two mutagens, sodium nitrite and quinacrine. The same observation was made on the crude extracts from the leaves and stems of Cyanotis vaga, Lour. (Schultes). Thus, both ecdysterone and the crude extracts possess antimutagenic effects.
