Ma. Celia Villareal-aguila

Discipline: Family and Relationships

Abstract:

This paper intends to explore the concept of happiness in the context of the Filipino family. Exploring the sources of happiness and unhappiness will help sustain its existence as a social institution that engenders well-being and life satisfaction among its members.

Interviews were conducted from couples of low income and middle income groups.

The concept of happiness common for the low and middle income couples was being together as an intact family with harmonious relationships, openness with each other, their children and closeness to God. On the other hand, the differences that surfaced were their unequal income level that results in differing lifestyles and interests.
